Q and A - Exotic Sands

Q:  How can I see an Exotic Sands picture in motion?
A:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgPvPup2LI8

Q:  What are the UPS ground shipping charges?
A:  small $16 | medium $17 | large $18 | xlarge $20

Q:  What are the dimensions of the Sand Pictures?
A:  Example: A 9" x 12" large Sand Picture -- 9" x 12" are the outer dimensions including the frame and stand. The frame is approx 1 1/4" wide around.

Q:  I have an old Sand Picture from years ago, but it doesn't flow anymore?
A:  All old sand pictures have the same problem, they weren't sealed correctly and the solution was able to evaporate. All of this has been corrected.

Q:  How long will a new Exotic Sands picture last?
A:  Several years. Current Exotic Sands pictures have been improved with a "super seal" and a highly guarded trade secret solution that keeps them flowing.

Q:  What is the difference between Exotic Sands and our copycat competitors?
A:  Exotic Sands pictures are high quality and made in the USA. Our competitors have their pictures made in China with poor quality.

Q:  Can I display my Sand Picture in direct sunlight in the window?
A:   We do not recommend exposing your picture to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

Q:  Why does the air in the Sand Pictures become one big bubble over the course of a few days?
A:  After a day or so, the small bubbles pop and form one big bubble. To break up the large bubble, shake your picture fast and firm and the small bubbles will reappear.

Q:  How can I create the best sandscape?
A:  1. Get all of the air bubbles at the top of the picture  2. Level the sand across the picture  3. Shake your picture fast and firm (like you would shake an etch-a-sketch to clear it) -- smaller air bubbles create better pictures  4. Turn the picture allowing the bubbles to prevent the sand from flowing too fast.

Remember, "the slower the flow, the better the show"

Q:  What is happening when half of the sand falls and the other half stays above?
A:  This is a good thing! The air prevented some of the sand from falling to create lake and ocean scenes.

Q:  Will the black and white sand always separate?
A:  Yes. The black sand is twice as heavy as the white sand, therefore, it falls faster than the white sand, always causing separation.

Q:  Where did the Sand Pictures originate?

A:  They were invented by William Tabar of Salt Lake City, Utah in 1985 and patented in 1987.

  • It should be understood that these Sand Art Pictures do not last a lifetime due to the nature of the materials.
